throughout history, personal experiences have helped artists create some of their most stunning and renowned pieces of art.
street artist jaune from brussels, belgium is one such artist. he drew on his personal experience of his life as a sanitation worker in the city of brussels to create a series that’s humorous and makes you think at the same time.
he uses the urban landscape, to place characters of sanitation workers dressed in their bright fluorescent colours. the result is often funny and whimsical. but the deeper point being that in spite of their bright coloured clothes, these very workers are often invisible to the people around them. even though they form an integral part of the machinery that keeps the city clean.
he says, “my work is based on the paradox between the visible and the invisible, with sanitation workers as the main protagonists.”
