there are cinephiles. and then there are the really serious cinephiles. those who don’t just love watching cinema but also get inspired by it and go on to create something beautiful from it.
thomas duke is one such serious cinephile.
in his stepping through film photography project, he travels to movie locations where famous movie scenes were shot and recreates them in a way that marries the movie and photography.
he does that by matching the exact locations from well known movies and captures them by fitting photos from certain scenes to match the settings in which they were filmed. thomas is one with an eye for detail and makes sure he matches the angle and the perspective of the photograph with the real film location.
he started the stepping through film photography project in 2017 and has visited over 150 famous film locations for movies like the tenet, harry potter, the avengers, the dark knight rises and dunkirk to name a few.
here are a few of the famous movie scenes that made serious cinephiles like us weak in the knees. you can follow thomas’ work on his instagram page.
and if you love the movies as much as we do, hop on over to matt stevens and his design series where he recreates blockbuster movies into vintage book cover designs.
