this past year has been one hell of a roller coaster ride for all of us. sometimes the lows outweighing the highs by many, many miles. but all of us stuck on and didn’t give up.
no matter what.
and in that journey there were scores of people and stories that gave us hope. a beacon to keep going. a sign to cherish the small things in life that we take for granted.
one such thing was the creatures of hope series. a collection of mixed media art creations by american artist lauren lee that fused photography with her own quirky brand of illustrations.
these creatures of hope brought the best places in nyc to life. rather they gave places, like the flatiron district, soho, chinatown and the pier a glimmer of hope. these creatures of hope were manifestations of lauren’s imaginative take on the people of new york city.
she says, “the idea behind this series was depicting creatures of hope walking through different parts of new york as it recovers from covid-19. despite everything, i saw people striving everyday with renewed hope and strength. these creatures represent that and seeing so many of you resonating with it has touched my heart and gives me hope back.”
