remember the time when there was a kind of art frenzy that had a technological twang to it. it was in the 70s and 80s that ascii art made its presence felt on the offbeat art scene. since then it has grown in stature and today there are many art groups that specialise in only this form of art.
meet andreas vrontis – a tattoo artist who took tattoo art back in time, literally. he specializes in creating ascii art as tattoos and he fondly remembers his first ascii tattoo that he created on his dad was a pair of hands praying.
from there on, he has created dozens of tattoos, like the one of john lennon that won the ‘best in show’ at the cyprus international tattoo convention to drawing pet dogs, artists like salvador dali to hollywood celebs.
when we asked andreas about his work, he said, “i have always been fascinated with how a simple lettering pattern could create so much symmetry and detail in the end result, letters, numbers and punctuation marks are nothing but simple forms, but when it all comes together they become so much more than that.”
