inspiration for art can come from the oddest of places. it could be people, places, beautiful monuments and most of all from nature.
but what happens when that same inspiration comes from two vastly different forms. and those forms are diametrically opposite. like nature and migraines.
that’s exactly what bethany noel – an artist based in boston and a rhode island school of design does. she has been getting migraines for over 20 years and these are accompanied by ocular disturbances called ‘auras’. so when she paints nature – she adds an ‘alice in wonderland’ feeling to them. each forest scene has a world of magnified color, which borders on fantasy.
in her series titled ‘migraines in nature’, she brings to life the good, weird and the beautiful sides of her experiences. and with this she hopes that people will see that despite the pain there are bits of unexpected joy in the world.
