apple pies are yummy enough right? put in the right ingredients, smother it with a bit of love and let it bake for a while. that’s more or less it. hmmmm. no. not really. baking a pie just right, is an art.
and when you mix baking with a bit of food art, you get karin pfeiff-boschek. a german pastry artist who took her love for cooking pies and turned it into an art form.
karin was a student of textile design and was into creating different kinds of textile art. and it was only after learning to bake pies from her american mother-in-law did she merge her love for geometric designs into baking.
she says that her pie crust designs are inspired by nature and many of them come from the time that she spends in her own garden. and to get the crust in different colours, she uses powders made from freeze-dried berries, spinach, and beetroot. karin also says that she usually bakes sweet pies with peaches, apples and other fruits but once in a while she experiments with meat and vegetables too.
over time, karin garnered a loyal fan following online which led to many of her designs being featured in the los angeles times, the washington post, the christian science monitor, foodie magazine in the Netherlands and many other International publications and websites.
