fairytale hairstyles on american and british currency notes by finnish artist noora schroderus

yin and yang. we all know the concept right? we’ve read about it in self help books, seen it in blockbuster hollywood films and probably even experienced it in everyday life. you’ve probably even seen it in the art world.

but how often have you seen it come alive on currency notes.

finnish artist – noora schroderus has embroidered the hairstyles of famous disney and european folklore characters on american dollars and british currency.

this was her way of showcasing opposing elements of society. such as the masculine power of money and feminine passive beauty. industrial production and slow embroidery.

the result is a beautiful mix of contrarian ideas. one that makes you think, if power can actually be beautiful. or does it remain a cold, crisp note with no emotional value.

here are a few pieces of work from noora’s ‘female money’ series. you can follow her work on her website.
