at what point in our lives do we wake up and realise that the things we did to distract ourselves from what we have to do, day in and day out, would one day turn into something much more.
we’re talking about our hobbies. yup. the same thing doctors and extremely serious books tell us to involve ourselves in. something we love to do. something that keeps us happy.
fares micue is one such person.
a person for whom photography was just a nice way to share interesting pictures on her flick account. but after six years of doing it, realized that it was more. much more. it was a medium where she could share her thoughts, ideas and perception of reality and started to put in a lot more attention into details like the location, colours, feeling, story and meaning to create an image that is in alignment with her original idea. today, her self portraits make you wonder about the line that separates self portraits and flower photography. where is it?
interestingly, spanish photographer fares micue learnt the finer points of photography all by herself. and why not. she describes herself as a highly positive person and that the positivity often reflects in her work to deliver images with a strong message on personal growth, reflection, self worth and overcoming obstacles. which is indicative in the way she uses flower photography and mixes it in her self portraits.
she says, “my work is full of symbolism, every element in my compositions has a purpose, from the colors to the props to the body language and the combination of all these elements create the final conceptual image. my work is characterized by simple backgrounds, saturated colors and high conceptual load presented with a highly aesthetic charm. i want my work to be viewed as a whole story condensed in one frame.”
