how many of us look at an excel sheet and go, “now that’s quite a work of art.” not many, right? unless you are a stockbroker, or a data scientist or maybe a financial analyst.
you get my drift.
not many people with a creative bent of mind would look at an excel sheet of a company and see art in it. not unless you are gladys – the artist behind stoxart, who has recently taken a fascination for digitally illustrating stock charts, into minimalism art.
simply put, she creates beautiful landscapes using excel sheets of a company’s stock performance over time.
she looks for interesting news highlights and company charts on leading financial websites like yahoo finance and if she reads something that will affect a company’s market performance in either way then she checks their charts and decides if it will be worth turning into art.
gladys says, “i’ll research and note unique things about the company and when i find a perfect timeframe to capture, i’ll screenshot the chart and paste it into adobe illustrator to trace over all the data elements.”
look a bit closer at her work and you’ll see that she peppers her minimalism art with easter eggs too. like for instance, if you look closely at the tesla artwork, you will see a tiny elon musk hidden in one of buildings or the trees are in the shape of the tesla logo. there’s even a Hyperloop that represents the trade volume of the company’s stock.
