imagine that day, way back in school, when your art teacher told you that paper was meant to be drawn on. and colours are meant to colour. would you have listened? or would you have introduced her to the art of quilling or quilling paper?
most of us would have just kept quiet and carried on. but we’re guessing yulia brodskaya did not. she would have probably questioned the art teacher.
yulia is a paper artist and illustrator who uses just two simple elements in the creation of her art – paper and glue. or precisely quilling paper and glue. to create masterpieces in the art of quilling.
the difference in the way yulia creates her paper quilling portraits is that she uses heavy paper or card to create the shapes that she wants.
she says, “paper always held a special fascination for me. i’ve tried many different methods and techniques of working with it, until i found the way that has turned out to be ‘the one’ for me: now i draw with paper instead of on it.”
her work has attracted many admirers from all across the world. and can be seen in collections of famous personalities and organisations like, oprah winfrey, ferrero, hermés, san francisco museum of modern art, hermes, paramount pictures, country music association, wimbledon, mr issey miyake, amongst others.
